Access and Forms

PennERA is a system of web-based modules accessible to members of the University of Pennsylvania's research community. Below are forms and access information for all available modules.

Used for preparing, reviewing, approving, and submitting proposals

Used by Human Subjects investigators to electronically submit information for research they feel is eligible for IRB exemption status

Used for collecting, tracking, and reporting on application and award information for proposals

Office of Research Services (ORS)

Module Access Request Form

(needs signature by Access Administrator)

Human Subjects Tracking and/or Lab Animals Tracking

Used to manage protocols currently active or under review

Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), prior users of the Penn Protocol Manager (PPM) including the Office of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (OEHRS), University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR), the Office of Research Support Services (ORSS), and the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC)

General access information

Following is general information on access applicable to all PennERA modules:

  • PennKey and PennKey password--For access to all PennERA modules, authorized users will only need to authenticate with their PennKey and PennKey password before accessing the system with a standard web browser. If you do not have a PennKey, or if you have a PennKey but forgot your password, go to the PennKey web site for more information at http://www.upenn.edu/computing/pennkey/. If you have any trouble with the PennKey process, contact your Local Support Provider. For a contact list, go to http://www.upenn.edu/computing/view/support/.

  • Web browser--It is recommended that users access PennERA via Internet Explorer or Firefox. For the most current version of the browser that is supported at Penn, see the Supported Products page at http://www.upenn.edu/computing/product/.

  • Browser setting--Make sure your browser's cache is set to update "every visit to the page" (Internet Explorer) or "disable browser caching" (Firefox). Here is the path to change this setting:

    Internet Explorer --Tools>Internet Options>Settings (under General tab)>Every visit to the page
    Firefox --Tools>Options>Privacy>Cache>0 KB

How to log into PennERA

  1. Go to https://www.pennera.upenn.edu.
  2. Click the "Logon" link.
  3. Authenticate with your PennKey and PennKey password.
  4. Click "Continue" after you get the message that you have been successfully authenticated.
  5. At the PennERA Portal page, click on the module in the left menu that you wish to access.

This form collects the information necessary to enter University collaborators into the Penn Community database.

ORS Forms page

The Office of Research Services Forms page with links to all ORS forms, including the Proposal Transmittal and Approval Form, which is used to log and capture information on research proposals.
